Phonetic Text Editor
for Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Tamil

You will be asked to choose your language when you start the program.

The screen has three sections.

At the bottom you will see a grid showing how the letters in the South Asian language you have chosen relate to the letters on the English keyboard. As you type, the South Asian letters will appear in the middle screen, while the English letters that you have typed will show at the top of the screen.

Many of the Asian letters require two or more English letters to be typed. Thus, to type the Punjabi letter you will have to type kh. Some Asian vowels take a different form if they are at the start of a word or in the middle. The program chooses the correct form automatically. Thus, for example in Punjabi, by typing aa at the beginning of a word, will be typed, while by typing it in the body of a word, it will be automaticallymerged into the consonant preceding it in the correct manner - khaa becomes ਖਾ.

Some languages such as Gujarati combine consonants to form different letters such as:
ફ્ + = ફ્ર. If you type the appropriate English letters for the consonants that are to join, the Asian letters will automatically join in the correct fashion.
